Summer Tennis Kick-Off Celebrates Kimmelman Campus

Last month, we all saw an exciting glimpse into the future for the Carol Kimmelman Athletic and Academic Campus.

200 students from 8 Carson schools participated in a day of tennis, soccer, agility courses, tug-of-war and other team building activities.  The celebration honored the students for completing the USTA’s Net Generation tennis program at their schools – a pilot effort helping lay the groundwork for local youth tennis as we prepare to open our doors.

We were joined by LAUSD Administrator of Instruction Pedro Garcia representing Local District South along with school principals and teachers who carved out time during the busiest time of year to cheer their students on. Every child left with t-shirts and prizes, including free tennis lessons at the First Break Academy in Carson.

These are just the first of the tens of thousands of students who will thrive as athletes and scholars once the campus is fully up and running. We are proud to report that we’re currently on track to open in 2020.

A special thank you to the team behind the Net Generation Summer Tennis Kick Off!
