Expanding opportunity
for LA youth

A Marquee Sports and Academic Campus for the Region

The mission of the Carol Kimmelman Athletic and Academic Campus is to provide a comprehensive community center that offers high-caliber academic and athletic programs for under-resourced children and families. An innovative public-private partnership with Los Angeles County gave CKAAC its site, which aspires to include:

  • A 25,000 square-foot Learning Center
  • 87 acres consisting of nearly 50 tennis courts and five full-size soccer fields, as well as other multipurpose athletic facilities, including baseball fields, basketball courts, track and field, fitness and play areas
  • Variety of spaces open to use for events by the community

The landmark complex in Carson will make its programs available at little or no cost to local youth and families.

A state-of-the-art learning center equipped with high-tech equipment, labs and classrooms to prepare students for college and success in the 21st century workforce.

A top-tier tennis center spanning 29-acres that will be the largest public tennis venue on the West Coast. Dynamic tennis programming for children of all ages and abilities will take place on the hard and clay courts. There will also be a spectator venue for tournaments and a fully equipped fitness center.

Additional sports and recreation facilities will include soccer and multi-purpose fields that can accommodate rugby and other sports; basketball courts; a sprint track; and training turf to promote active and healthy lifestyles for the entire community.

Our campus will be located adjacent to the 405 Freeway in Carson, near Compton, Harbor City and Wilmington. The project is undergoing a public review process led by Los Angeles County, with an anticipated groundbreaking in 2020.

“Our youth will have an amazing opportunity to unlock both their academic and athletic potential, and to learn about perseverance, teamwork, fair play, and other valuable life lessons.”
